About

Istanbul Topkapı University Faculty of Fine Arts, Design and Architecture began providing education in 2017-2018 and has continued its education since then. The mission of our faculty is to place design thinking at the center of education, research, planning and production activities. Our departments, gathered under design thinking, aim to change and transform the world and the environment we live in towards development through design.

At the basis of keeping up with the changing world lies opening up to a changing, growing and expanding universe of knowledge. Today’s world can be defined as the infinite and rapid repetition of change. This is a state in which knowledge and existence at every level are within a flow of change. In response to the constant change of knowledge, the change of the world also leads to the change of existences and of meaning. The goal of our faculty is to ensure that this existential change takes place in education and in the professionals we graduate.

Our faculty consists of departments providing education in the long-standing, time-honored professions of Architecture, Theatre and Painting; in Radio, Television and Cinema, Interior Architecture and Environmental Design, and Graphic Design, which emerged with the changes after the 20th century; and finally in Gastronomy, Cartoon and Animation, Digital Game Design, and Visual Communication Design, which can be said to belong to the 21st century.

With the enrichment of educational traditions from the past through new educational tools in today’s world, all of our department programs have created interactive education programs with one another. In this way, all the education programs in our faculty consist of program contents that encompass the past and the future and turn this into a richness. The main goal of the education programs is, besides delivering professional knowledge with quality, to instill a love of the profession. This can be achieved by carrying out education in informal areas. These areas are realized through workshops, seminars, competition participations and exhibition participations. The events organized in our faculty enable students to get to know their professions more deeply, to set role models beyond the teaching staff, to interact with students at other institutions and even with foreign students at international events, and thereby to love their professions through getting to know them better.

The goal of all the departments within our University’s Faculty of Fine Arts, Design and Architecture is, in addition to instilling design-oriented critical thinking in our prospective colleagues, to guide them to become individuals who aim to develop in this direction in the practical world. As our institution and our academic and administrative staff, as guides each holding a torch, we continue—and we promise to continue—to illuminate the future routes of our students in a way that will persist even after their graduation.
